Mary Frances Brennan Chisholm, known affectionately as "Maitzie," peacefully departed this world on August 9, 2023, at her home in Scituate, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family and friends. She was 79 years old.
Born in Brookline, Massachusetts, Maitzie was the beloved daughter of Charles and Mary Brennan. Her journey through life was marked by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering love for her family, friends, and community.
Maitzie's legacy as a devoted wife and mother is exemplified by the close bond she shared for 56 years with her husband, Gerry Chisholm of Scituate, Massachusetts, and her six loving children: Maura Gallagher of East Lyme, Connecticut; Gerald Chisholm Jr. of Peekskill, New York; Kathleen Santoro of Pacific Palisades, California; Annie Bondhus of Franklin, Massachusetts; Jean Egan of Boston, Massachusetts; and Charlie Chisholm of Scituate, Massachusetts.
Educated at The Academy of the Assumption and Mt. St. Mary's College in Hooksett, New Hampshire, Maitzie's passion for teaching led her to positively impact young lives at Gate of Heaven School in South Boston, Massachusetts, and St. Andrew's School in Rochester, New York. Her dedication to education extended to volunteering countless hours within the Scituate public school system, earning her a distinguished service award for her nurturing and caring contributions.
An avid golfer and long time member of Hatherly Country Club, Maitzie reveled in the joy of the game and cherished the treasured memories made with friends and family on the links. Her prowess & love of golf continued well into her 70s, where she could often be found playing or watching a grandchild play from the cart. The gates of Minot Beach held a special place in her heart, serving as a peaceful sanctuary where she found solace and serenity.
Maitzie's love for the outdoors, her devotion to her six children, and her adoration for her 23 grandchildren were unwavering. Her vibrant spirit and genuine care touched the lives of every student she taught and every heart she encountered. Maitzie's passions encompassed the ocean, her backyard birds, dogs, travel, and an enthusiastic loyalty to Boston sports and the greatness of America.
In addition to her immediate family, Maitzie is survived by her brother, Dr. Charles Brennan of Manchester, Massachusetts, and her sister, Patricia Smith of Hudson, Massachusetts.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 15, at 10am at St. Mary of the Nativity in Scituate, followed by a reception at Hatherly Country Club.
