76 years old, of Scituate, passed away November 11, 2015
Born in Prince Edward Island Canada to the late Marion and Thomas Mullally, Audrey came to Cambridge, MA with her mother Marion in her early teens. She graduated from Cambridge’s St. Mary’s High School and went on the get her RN from the Cambridge Hospital School of Nursing. Audrey worked at the Massachusetts General Hospital for over 40 years starting in 1961 first on the Baker 7 Orthopedic floor as a Head Nurse, then for, Dr. Hugh Chandler at his MGH Orthopedic practice. For several years, she worked the New England Flower Show as the attending nurse when it was held at the Commonwealth Amory in Boston. Although Boston is home to many world renowned hospitals, according to Audrey, there was only one, her much revered MGH.
In July 2014, Audrey lost her beloved husband of nearly 52 years, William E. Hogan after his 16 year long struggle with ALS. Audrey was by Bill’s side throughout, always making sure that he was comfortable, cared for, and living life to the fullest under difficult circumstances. She took great pride in Bill’s positive approach to his illness, and he cherished her strength, wit, and love. Audrey missed Bill terribly after his passing, as he was her lifelong mate.
In addition to a compassionate nurse to hundreds of patients, Audrey was a generous, caring, selfless, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She was, at all times, more concerned with everyone else’s well-being. Audrey never wanted to burden those close to her with difficult personal or medical challenges she herself encountered over the course her life.
We will all miss her unique sense of humor, her boisterous laugh, her never ending thoughtfulness and her listening ear. Good night dearest Audrey. May you rest in peace.
