Peter Duffy of Norwell passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, on Feb 26, 2013, at age 66. Son of the late Francis and Aune Duffy of Scituate, Peter loved the ocean and was a two-time national sailing champion and a nationally ranked tennis player. He enjoyed a successful executive career at Verizon in Boston until 2004. At age 55, he pursued his passion for medicine, first as an EMT, then as a paramedic, and finally as the lead technician in the Cath lab of South Shore Hospital. He will always be cherished there for his incredible compassion, dedication to helping others, and the wonderful, unassuming manner that put all at ease in his presence.
Peter was a talented wood craftsman, avid mystery reader and above all, a devoted father and husband. He shared his love of fun, of life and adventure with his wife of 27 years, Jill Duffy, with his son Todd Schuerhoff and wife Kelley of Alexandria, VA, and with his daughter Robin Gaynor and husband Martin of Boston, MA. Peter is also survived by his sister Nancy Klein and her husband Richard of Cary, NC, and their children Bethany Gelb, Jeremy Klein and Jonathan Klein. Peter also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Noah, Cate and Lara Schuerhoff and Jack and Thomas Gaynor. He will be missed greatly by all who had the great pleasure of knowing this true gentleman, and he will be held dearly in the hearts of his family forever.
Friends and relatives are welcomed to celebrate his life at a memorial service to be held on April 6th, 2013, at 11am at The United Church of Christ, 460 Main Street, Norwell, MA.
Donations may be made in Peter’s name to the Cath Lab or EMS services at South Shore Hospital, 55 Fogg Rd, S. Weymouth, MA 02190
