

Raised in a United States Air Force family, Thomas lived throughout the world, including Nagoya & Tokyo, Japan; Athens, Greece; and multiple locations across the United States. He graduated from the American Academy, Athens, Greece and later earned his college degree from Nasson College, Maine.
Thomas dedicated more than 40 years to aviation leadership with international airlines. At the time of his passing, he served as Director of Air Safety Management for Air Astana in Kazakhstan. His distinguished career included serving as Chief Operating Officer of New Pacific Airlines, Anchorage, Alaska; Chief Executive Officer of Somon Air, Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Proficiency Check Pilot with Delta Global Services; and the First Designated Inspector for the Department of Civil Aviation in Aruba. He retired from Delta Air Lines as a Captain and Line Check Airman and also flew for Ethiopian Airlines. Earlier in his career, Thomas served as an Aircraft Commander in the United States Air Force, both domestically and overseas.
Thomas held an FAA Airline Transport Pilot certificate and was a Certified IOSA Auditor, as well as certified in Safety Management Systems by the UK Civil Aviation Authority in London.
Beyond aviation, Thomas was deeply committed to cultural and civic leadership. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Tajikistan; Founder & President of the Georgia Philharmonic (formerly DeKalb Symphony Orchestra in Atlanta). Currently a member of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra Advisory Council having previously served as Chairman of the Board. He also served on the Executive Committee Member of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and was president of the North Metro Arts Roundtable in Atlanta.
In recognition of his contributions to the arts and community, Thomas received numerous honors, including Outstanding Community Leader in Fulton County Georgia; Outstanding Citizen of Roswell, GA and a Finalist for the Atlanta ABBY Award for the Performing Arts.
An accomplished international traveler, Thomas was conversant in Tajik, German, Greek, Russian and Amharic. He enjoyed boating, sailing, cooking and entertaining friends and family.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Colonel Philip Glendon Hallam; his mother Phyllis Margaret Hession Hallam and his brother, Philip G. Hallam, Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ava, Dartmouth Massachusetts; his children, Shelby Burger and her husband John of Anchorage, Alaska; Megan Hallam and her spouse Jennifer Clark of Kennesaw, Georgia; Lindsay Hallam of New Orleans, Louisiana; Scott Brown and his wife Brandy Mann of Reno, Nevada and Morgan Brown Hallam of Dartmouth, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his sister, Linda White of Westerville, Ohio; his brothers William J. Hallam and his wife Susan of Roswell, Georgia; and Stephen C. Hallam and his wife Debbie of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; along with 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A wake will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate, Massachusetts. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m., with burial immediately thereafter in the Fairview Cemetery- Trinity Park, Scituate, Massachusetts. All family, friends and neighbors are warmly invited to attend the reception from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at 824 Tucker Road, Dartmouth, Massachusetts, formerly known as The Fathers of the Holy Cross. Please know that guests are welcome at the reception even if they were unable to attend the funeral service.
