Alex Baker

Alex Baker, age 86, of Scottsbluff, died Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff. A memorial service will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 22, 2007, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastor Willie Coop officiating. Cremation was at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff. Memorials have been established to Prairie Haven Hospice and American Cancer Society. Alex was born August 30, 1921, in Colorado to Alex Sr. and Mary (Schledgewitz) Baker. He moved to Lyman with his family as a child. He married Frances Holmes, November 27, 1949, at Scottsbluff. They farmed in Scottsbluff, Bayard, Gering and Torrington, Wyoming. He loved to farm and took great pride in his land and cattle. After moving to town he enjoyed his vegetable garden and raising flowers. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Jeffery Anne Baker of Wheatland, Wyoming; daughter, Mary “Jeanie” Russell of Torrington, Wyoming; grandsons, Jim Russell, Jerry Russell and his wife Melody and Jeff Russell and his fiancé Patricia Miller all of Gering; four great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and his poodle, Trixie. Alex was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances on November 22, 2007; and his sister, Esther Madison.
