Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Matt Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be given to the church. Catherine was born in Darlington, MO on September 26, 1923 to Earl Ligear and Ella Elizabeth (Hayter) Shelby where she grew up and graduated from high school. She graduated from Parks Business College in Kansas City, MO. She married William “Bill” Casper Humphrey on April 3, 1944 in Kansas City, MO. Though having worked outside the home as a bookkeeper, and helping Bill with owning and operating Lina Ditch Company, Eileen’s greatest joy and primary interest was always her family. To the end, her concern was for the welfare of others and the denial of herself. Long days and years she labored for her family; long wakeful nights prayed for us. Truly she “loved her family freely and gave herself for us.” Though small in stature, she was mighty in spirit and held with a strong grip on each of us through all life’s long course of events. She was selfless and supportive, kind and forgiving and provided an uncommon and yet modest example of what a wife, mother, and grandmother should be. Each family member had a close and personal relationship with her that has already proved to be irreplaceable. Eileen was a 50 year member of the United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star in Albany, Missouri, with past service as Worthy Matron. Eileen was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William “Bill” Casper Humphrey, and son, William “Billy” Linn Humphrey both passing in 1997. Despite her bereavement, she carried on valiantly for nearly fourteen more years. Eileen is survived by two daughters, Margo Ann Snyder and Patricia Lee Hughey, three sons-in-law, Paul William Snyder, Dr. Philip Turner Stoffel and Lance Clayton Hughey, one daughter-in-law, Patricia Jean Humphrey and four grandchildren: Tara Linn Humphrey, Christopher William Snyder, Clayton John (Julie Anne) Hughey, and Catherine Jean Humphrey. She leaves a legacy of love, compassion, laughter and courage we will no doubt cherish and miss more with each passing year. Her children and grandchildren rise up and call her blessed. The record of her life is engraved on our hearts.
