

A Memorial Mass for Catherine Anne Scharf, age 85, of 2325 Lodge Drive, Gering, Nebraska, who died January 12, 2014, at Heritage Estates, will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 17, 2014, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Father Vince Parsons officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited Thursday, January 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. A memorial has been established to the Valley Christian Neighbors in Need (VCNIN) food pantry program. Tributes of sympathy maybe left at www.dugankramer.com. Catherine was born December 10, 1928, at Denver, Colorado, to James and Anne (Huthersall) Lawrenson. She received her early education at St. Anthony’s School in Sterling, Colorado, graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Denver, Colorado, and attended Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado. Catherine married Robert Scharf on June2, 1948, in Sterling, Colorado and made their home in Alliance and Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Catherine was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She volunteered her time for the Valley Christian Neighbors in Need program. Survivors include sons, Jim (Darcy) Scharf of Omaha, Nebraska, Tim (Ann) Scharf of Gering, Nebraska, David (Dixie) Scharf of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Dan (Margaret) Scharf of Portland, Oregon; daughters, Anne Branstad of Roseville, California, Amy (Jim) Gardner of Chadron, Nebraska, Maribeth (Mike) Baker of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Rebecca (Scott) Schaneman of Minatare, Nebraska and Sarah (Dave Fisher ) Scharf of New York, New York; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, James and Anne; three brothers and two sisters. Special thanks to the staff of Emerald Court, Heritage Estates, and Prairie Haven Hospice for their never ending love and compassion for our mother, Catherine.
