

Daniel K. Abernethy, 57, of Scottsbluff was taken to heaven on December 15, 2006. A memorial service will be held 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastors Nancy and Terry Tomlinson officiating. Cremation was at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff. Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials have been established to First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff and the University of Nebraska at Kearney Alumni Association. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com Dan was born December 28, 1948, in Scottsbluff to Kenneth and Ardoth (Bohy) Abernethy. He graduated from the Scottsbluff High School and then attended Kearney State College where he received his Bachelors Degree. While at Kearney he lettered in football all four years from 1967 to 1971. On June 6, 1967, he married Linda K. Genzlinger in Scottsbluff. He was employed in management at Lockwood from 1973 to 1988. He then owned and operated his own construction and real estate business. He enjoyed hunting, bike riding, golf, volleyball, and most of all spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff and served on the Board of Trustees. He was past president of the Scottsbluff Chapter of Pheasants Forever. Survivors include his wife Linda Abernethy; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Kristin Abernethy of Colorado Springs, Colorado and their children, Mara Grace and Ian; daughter and son-in-law, Ginny and Jerry Ostdiek of Gering and their children, Josh Swanson, Emily and Jackson Ostdiek; sisters, Linda Abernethy of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Kara Friedman of Kent, Washington; mother-in-law, Doris Genzlinger; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry (Pete) and Sharon Genzlinger; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
