

Elmer James Hays, 71, of Scottsbluff passed away at Golden Living Center, Tuesday, February 15, 2011. A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday February 18, 2011 at the Scottsbluff Nazarene Church with beloved pastors officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Air Force Honor Guard. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials are in care of the family. Elmer was born July 21, 1939 in Mitchell, Nebraska to James and Anna (Van Dausen) Hays. He received his early education at Haig and Victory Hill Schools and graduated from Scottsbluff High School. In 1988 he attained an associate’s degree from Western Nebraska Community College. He was in the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam. Elmer married Francee Vorse on August 31, 1958 and they made their home in many places, finally settling back in Scottsbluff in 1974. Elmer was a mountain man at heart; he enjoyed making black powder rifles and spending time with family and friends. Elmer James went from this life to the next walking, leaping and praising the Lord. Elmer is survived by his loving wife Francee Hays, son Jamie (Dara) Hays, daughters Janette (Robert) Mize, Janelle (Michael) Barnes, Danée (Rudy) Avila, Dawn Knight, his treasured 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, brothers Clarence (Eva) Hays, Howard (Lois) Hays, sisters Celia Hays, Mary Busic and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Anna, granddaughter Jennifer Barnes, brother-in-law Bob Busic, sister-in-law Roma Hays, nieces Amber Snyder and Kimberly Hays, father and mother-in-law Alden and Kathryn Vorse.
