

Frieda “Grandma Fritz” Schaneman, 88, of Scottsbluff, died Monday, October 6, 2008, at Emerald Court in Scottsbluff. Her funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 10, 2008, at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. A memorial has been established to Salem Congregational Church. Frieda was born July 7, 1920, at Scottsbluff to George and Molly (Schlindler) Marker. She was a lifelong resident of Scottsbluff. She married Henry C. Schaneman December 6, 1942, at San Jose, California. She was a chef at the Copper Kettle from 1960 to 1969 and Fritzi worked at Big John’s Barbeque from 1969 to 1985 and became manager in 1973. She also owned and operated the Mitchell Bakery from 1976 to 1983. She was known for her famous Macroon Cookies. She was a member of Salem Congregational Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking and received numerous cooking awards. She became an avid baseball and softball fan watching her grandsons play. Survivors include her children, Duane (Patty) Schaneman of Torrington; Wyoming, Steve (Susan) Schaneman of Douglas, Wyoming, Cori (Ben) Cooley of Mitchell and Gordon Schaneman of North Platte; grandchildren Ronda (Ted) Stienmetz of Casper, Wyoming, Larry (Jamie) Schaneman of Torrington, Tori (Terry) Osborn of San Antonio, Texas, Troy Schaneman of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Quentin Miller of Kearney, Derrick Miller of Scottsbluff and Jacob Schaneman of Scottsbluff; step-granchildren, Tori (Chad) Young of Omaha and Tami (Steve) Niederhaus of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Darbi (Joe), Russell (Kendra), Emma Lee, Meralyn, Kohl, Lacy, Elandra and Elric; step-great-grandchildren, Elli, Kaden, Beau, Lani and Leah; great-great-grandchildren, Mattie, Brynn, Talon and Cooper; brother, Elmer Marker of Las Vegas, Nevada; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Bertha and Esther; and five brothers, Henry, Elmer, Jake, Alex and Victor.
