Janice Kay Trackwell

Janice Kay Trackwell, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away with her family by her side on January 11, 2025, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska at the age of 72. Born on September 19, 1952, to Walter and Deloris Schledewitz in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Jan was a woman whose spirit resonated with love, laughter, and an undying devotion to her family.

Jan graduated from Hemingford High School in 1970, and went on to attend Chadron State College. She pursued several occupations but settled at Regional West Medical Center working as a secretary and a pharmacy technician, retiring after 38 years of service.

On January 18, 1975, she married Gene Alan Trackwell, and they made their home in Gering, Nebraska. They had four children: Jeffrey Alan, Jennifer Lynn, Stephanie Renee, and Linsey Michelle. They were proud parents who supported each other and were selflessly devoted to raising their children. They never missed milestones or school or athletic events. Each child grew up feeling truly loved and most important in their parents’ lives.

It is easy to say Jan’s first love was family. When the time came to be a grandmother, she couldn’t be happier. She gave her five grandbabies the love and support she gave her own children - always there to help in their daily lives and to give big grandma hugs and kisses.

Jan’s second love was animals. While growing up on a farm, she acquired many pets she loved dearly. One being a horse named Rusty, and another a dog named Dusty. Since then, there was never a time in her life when a pet wasn’t by her side receiving love and attention from his or her mama.

After retirement, Jan not only enjoyed family time, but also spent many hours doing crossword puzzles, or meeting up with friends and family for dinner. She also enjoyed the theater, movies, and traveling. She took a special interest in organizing and planning parties.

She is survived by her husband Gene of nearly 50 years (January 18, 1975). Sister Dianna Schledewitz, Maryville, MO. Daughters: Jennifer (Arthur) Valdez, Denver, CO, Stephanie (Andrew) Hrasky, Cheyenne, WY, and Linsey (Justin) Carlson, Gering, NE. Five grandchildren who adored her: Hannah, Kennedy, and Gunnar Hrasky of Cheyenne, WY, and Caydon Aulick and Kaycee Carlson of Gering, NE. She is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

Jan now joins her infant son Jeffrey Alan Trackwell, her late parents Walter and Deloris Schledewitz, her father and mother-in-law Earl and Hilda Trackwell, maternal grandparents Henry and Helen Haverick, paternal grandparents William and Eva Schledewitz, and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever resonate within the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.

A service will be held at Dugan and Kramer on January 17, 2025, at 1:00 pm with tea and cookies to follow.
