

Jesus “Jess” Quijas, Sr. 76, of Scottsbluff, died Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff. His funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Father Phil Flott officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Nebraska National Guard. Cremation will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory and inurnment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Monday at the funeral home. Jess was born October 28, 1931, in Kansas City, Kansas to Martin and Mary (Avalos) Quijas. He married Angela Sanchez 55 years ago on November 17, 1952, at Alliance, NE. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from May 28, 1952 to May 27, 1954. Jess worked in Scottsbluff as a car salesman for over 40 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, the VFW, American Legion, Elks Club, Moose Lodge and GI Forum. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, baseball, and was a Nebraska Cornhusker and Denver Bronco Fan. Jess and Angela loved to travel. Survivors include his wife, Angela Quijas; 5 daughters, Kathy Quijas of Tucson, Arizona, Lillian Figueroa of Killeen, Texas, Monica Quijas of Scottsbluff, NE, Tracy Ruddick of Mead, Colorado and Sandra Quijas of Tempe, Arizona; 5 sons, Mike Quijas, Salvador Quijas, Daniel Quijas, Jess Quijas Jr. and Daniel Quijas II all of Scottsbluff, NE; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marcella Correa of San Jose, California, Mary Gonzales of Denver, Colorado and Theresa Cole of Spokane, Washington; and brother, John Quijas of Lincoln; He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond Quijas, Tom Quijas, Ralph Quijas, Cruz Quijas, Guadalupe Quijas, and Joe Quijas; sister, Ireane Lucas.
