Juanita Marie Race Moody died in Crawford, Nebraska’s Ponderosa Villa on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 just thirty-three days short of 96 years. On September 4, 1926 she was born in Casper, Wyoming, the daughter of Frank Harold and Marjory Angeline Phinney Race.
The Race family, including her little brother Keith Walter, moved to Crawford in 1938. Juanita graduated Valedictorian from Crawford High School in 1944. Her brief experience in a Greeley, CO woman’s college ended, followed with a short engagement, and a quick execution of marriage to US Navy man, Lloyd Dawson Moody, on June 9, 1945. This followed with an almost immediate move to Seattle, WA, an apartment search and employment in a pharmacy. The official end of WWII, on Sep. 2, 1945 was actually the preliminary event of the return to Crawford and her city girl’s life was changed to farming and ranching. The country and county made an impact with Juanita’s involvement in multiple organizations such as Beta Sigma Phi and PEO, John the Baptist Catholic Church family, the entire Moody Clan which comprised the families and world of seven brothers and two sisters, as well as her definitely dominated bridge world.
Two children were born: Cassandra Jo Moody Olson and David Lloyd (Mary) Moody and continue to be survivors along with grandsons Justin David and Dawson Porter(Alicia) Moody; great-grandsons Aaron Lloyd and Trent Jackson and great-granddaughters Sawyer Adele, Finley Marie and Piper Jo Moody.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Marjory Race, her husband Lloyd and her brother, Keith and wife Mary Lou Dodd Race who had graced her with six nephews and two nieces.
A Rosary in John the Baptist Catholic Church will be Sunday, August 7 at 4:00pm and the funeral on Monday August 8, 2022 at 11:00am. Catholic ladies will serve a lunch after the service in the Catholic Hall. A private family internment next to her husband will happen in the Crawford City Cemetery. Memorials to the Catholic Church, the Ponderosa Villa, Crawford Volunteer Fire and Rescue, or Crawford Library are always greatly appreciated.
