Kimberly was born July 28th, 1969, in Gordon, Nebraska, the oldest of two children to Lawrence “Skip” Lessert and Shirley (Anderson) Lessert. When her brother Jarod Michael arrived, the family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota in 1972. From 1978 to 1984 the family moved several times to Littleton, Colorado; Chicago Illinois; Kanas City, Missouri; Omaha, Nebraska; and finally settling in Henry, Nebraska. Kim and Jarod attended many schools in their moves, never really making solid friendships with classmates, while it wasn’t convenient for her little brother to want to tag along, Kim never said no and never left him behind. They were often each other’s best friends and had an unbreakable bond.
Kim attended many schools throughout elementary, junior high, and high school. Soccer was her favorite sport to play throughout her younger years, so to be starting her freshman year in a high school that didn’t offer that as a team sport, was heartbreaking to her. She grew to love other sports like basketball, but not as much as she loved soccer. Kim graduated in 1987 from Morrill High School. In college, she attended Nebraska Western College, now known as Western Nebraska Community College, on a Sports medicine scholarship. That scholarship also took her to Chadron State College where she was a student trainer for the football team and taped the ankles of future Chadron State College football Hall of Famer, Don Beebe. Kim then went on to University of Nebraska Kearney for her degree in Sports and Recreation. After college, Kim started working as a camp counselor at the Carol Joy Holling Lutheran Camp in Ashland, Nebraska. She made many lifelong friendships during her time in Ashland and enjoyed catching up with everyone when she visited Omaha or Lincoln.
While living in Omaha, Kim started working for Champs Sporting Goods stores and quickly moved her way up to become a store manager in Kansas City, and then transferring to South Bend, Indiana. Kim was a Husker fan through and through, but her second favorite college team was Notre Dame. Living just down the street from campus, Kim attended many football, women’s basketball, and hockey games while living in Indiana.
In January of 2014 Kim moved back to Morrill to run her father’s insurance company, Lessert Insurance. She was a co-chair for Morrill Community Development alongside Pete Cawiezel and was an integral part of planning Morrill’s annual Horse Creek Rendezvous and the annual Christmas Stroll. Kim was also a member of the Morrill tree board committee, a member of the village planning committee, a member of the Morrill-Lyman-Henry non-profit Development Company, and a Rotarian with the Morrill Rotary Club. A supporter of the Sons of the American Legion, Morrill American Legion Post 10, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
In June of 2017, Kim fell in love with her life partner Anna Munroe and her son TJ. Kim introduced TJ to soccer and fishing, and later shooting. She was TJ’s biggest fan next to his mom and was there to support and push him to do the best she knew he was capable of. Kim often said she fell in love with TJ first in their relationship and wanted the best for him in life. Although their union was short, Kimberly and Anna married in July 2025. Kim and Anna shared many adventures together going to the family cabin and many annual trips to Deadwood, South Dakota.
