

Margy E. Martin, 83, of Scottsbluff, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Residency Care Center. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Residency with Reverend Brad Gustafson of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Scottsbluff Public Library or the Residency Association Memorial Fund. Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel is in charge if arrangements. Margy E. Martin was born Sept. 28, 1924, in Mill Valley, Calif. to P. Cooper and Margaret (Tourtelot) Ellis. She moved to Scottsbluff with her parents in 1927. She attended Scottsbluff schools graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1942. Margy graduated from Scottsbluff Junior College and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Denver in 1946. In 1969 she received a Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Denver. Margy married Quintin H. Martin Dec. 27, 1948, in Scottsbluff. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a librarian in the Oakland, Calif. public libraries and later served for 21 years as Director of Library Services at Western Nebraska Community College, retiring in 1986 with the title of Administrator Emeritus. She was a life member and had served as president of the American Association of University Women, P.E.O Chapter GA, Wahanka Home Extension Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the afternoon circle of Presbyterian Women. She was an elder and had served as librarian of First Presbyterian Church of Scottsbluff for many years. The many programs and book reviews she presented were much enjoyed by friends and members of her organizations. After moving to the Residency in 1992, Margy participated in many activities there, including establishing the library and serving as librarian. She also formed the Residency Readers’ Roundtable, acting as chairman and discussion leader. Survivors include her husband; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail Herstead and Robert Luce of Carson City, Nev.; April and Ronald Groskopf of Buffalo, Wyo.; Beverly and Jim Glassen of Boise, Idaho; and son, Ellis Martin of Kearney; grandchildren, Kara Groskopf, Kelli Groskopf, and Lauren Herstead. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Charles Ellis.
