

Mildred Alvina (Zeiler) Rein, 94, of Gering, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Heritage Estates in Gering. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Emmanuel Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor John Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Friends who wish may visit at the Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff from noon to 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday and at the church prior to the service time on Thursday. Memorials in her name may be made to the Emmanuel Congregational Church. Mildred was born on August 8, 1917, at Loveland, Colorado to George Sr. and Marie Katherine (Brungardt) Zeiler. The family moved to Minatare, Nebraska and she grew up there and received her education there. She met Henry Rein Jr. and later married on February 24, 1937. They farmed in Gering Valley for many years and in the Bayard area, and then in Mitchell Valley. Mildred was very active in the farm operation. She was employed in Scottsbluff at the ladies store G.G.’s as a clerk, Copper Kettle where she made salads and pies, and she was hostess and cashier for Kings Fine Foods. Upon retiring from farming they moved to Scottsbluff. Mildred loved cooking and baking, her family was lucky to be the recipients of her fine cooking. She loved doing work for her church bake sales, she made many angel food cakes that were a mile high and very delicious. She loved yard work and had beautiful roses in her yard. She was a Charter Member of the Church, and was a Sunday School teacher. She loved her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren dearly. She made many trips to see all of their school functions. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Paul Schmunk of Gering, son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Gloria Rein of Mitchell; grandchildren, Tim and Debi Schmunk of Phoenix, Arizona, Julie Schmunk Jimenez and Angel Jimenez of Scottsbluff, Aaron and Melissa Rein of Mitchell and Jeremy Rein of Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Cylie Wyatt of Redmond, Washington, Vanessa Wyatt who is serving in the Airforce in Germany, and Kyle Schmunk of Phoenix, Arizona; step-grandchild, Shawn Reinecker of Phoenix, Arizona; and step-great-grandchildren, Kadin and Keaton Shoemaker of Mitchell. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, and six sisters.
