

Myron C. “Sonny” Brester, 73, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, February 24, 2012 at his home. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastors Dale Brown and Dr. Charles Richardson officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery with military honors by the United States Navy. Memorials have been established to Prairie Haven Hospice, Festival of Hope and Salem Congregational Church. There will be a time of sharing and storytelling with the family Monday, February 27, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Sonny was born November 11, 1938 in Scottsbluff, NE to George and Mollie (Brown) Brester. He attended and graduated from Scottsbluff High School. He entered the Navy January 12, 1956 and was honorably discharged October 19, 1959. He married Colleen Larimer June 18, 1960 in Hot Springs, SD. Sonny managed Bluffs 66 Station for one and a half years before moving to California. He returned to Scottsbluff in 1967 and opened the Gulf Service Station in partnership with Jack Schmidt. October 1972 he opened Sonny’s Bike Shop and sold it to his son JR Brester in January 2004 when he retired. He is survived by his wife Colleen C. Brester, daughter Soni (Rick) Smith, Gering, NE, son JR (Angie) Brester, Gering, NE, grandchildren Derek Smith (Anee Fullerton, fiancé) Longmont, CO, Nicole “Nikki” Smith, Gering, NE, Justin, Brenden, Sydnee and Carlee Brester, Gering, NE, sisters Joyce Kosel, Gering, NE Darlene (Lawren) Schumaker, California and Betty Mason, of Michigan, beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Mollie Brester and in-laws Mickey and Tip Tuepker.
