

Richard A. Fertig, 76, of Bayard, died Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. His funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastor Garry Schick officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, in Scottsbluff. Friends may visit from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., on Sunday and Monday, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. A memorial has been established in care of the family. Richard Adam Fertig was born March 26, 1932, at Bayard, Nebraska to Adam and Maria (Nuss) Fertig. He grew up and attended schools at Bayard. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from March 1, 1952 to February 28, 1955. Following his discharge he returned to Bayard to farm. On February 19, 1961, he married Sharon Aulick, at Scottsbluff. They later purchased their present farm where they have lived for the past 39 years, while raising seven children. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff. Survivors include his wife Sharon Fertig; daughters, Kathleen Platt of Las Vegas, Nevada and Elizabeth (Tony) Koncaba of Bayard; sons, Paul Fertig of Pacolet Mills, South Carolina, Phillip (Sandy) Fertig of Thornton, Colorado, Robert Fertig of Scottsbluff, Kyle Koncaba of Fort Knox, Kentucky and Anton Koncaba of Bayard; sisters, Joan (Chuck) Watson of Manhattan Beach, California and Mary Ann Trimble of Woodland Hills, California; mother-in-law, Anna Aulick of Bayard; sister-in-law, Susan (Ted) Elias of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
