It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Russell Lee Sinner, a beloved father, loyal son, supportive brother, devoted nurse, cherished friend, spirited coworker, and a man of unwavering faith. Russell was welcomed into heaven on February 9, 2025, at the age of 60.
Born on November 17, 1964, in Scottsbluff, NE to Ramona and Kenneth Sinner, Russ was the youngest of five children.
Russ was known for his selfless commitment to helping others and deep faith in our Lord and Savior.
Russ was raised in the church, graduated from Mitchell High School and later graduated with his bachelor’s degree at Platte Valley Bible College. In 1992 he married Holly Herman and adopted Chelsey and Courtney, treating them as his own. A short while later Amber and Andrew were born. It was no secret that he loved his family more than anything else in the world.
As a dedicated and skilled nurse, Russ spent his career caring for others with patience, tireless commitment, and a humor only those who knew him would understand. His impact on his patients and colleagues alike was profound, and his witty spirit made him a source of comfort and reassurance to many.
Russ spent 32 years working as an RN with most of that time at the Behavioral Health Unit. The care he gave to people with mental illness undoubtedly shows just how caring, selfless, gentle, patient, and Spirit-filled he was.
Russ found joy in the simple moments of life. His childhood summers were spent at the family cabin on Laramie Peak during which hiking and exploring led to a passion for the outdoors. He always welcomed friends and later children and grandchildren to spend time at his little mountain paradise.
Russ also volunteered his summers at Church Camp being the camp nurse. He was music lover, a novice guitarist and a professional nap-taker. He enjoyed concerts, going “Jeep’n”, woodworking, traveling to Virginia, being outdoors, and enjoying late night pie and coffee. No matter what it was, he wanted to spend time with family and friends and embrace life’s most beautiful moments.
Above all, Russ was a man of faith. His belief in God guided him through life’s challenges and triumphs, offering him strength and purpose. He lived his faith through his actions—selflessness, forgiveness, and a deep love for those around him. His legacy of faith will live on in the hearts and deep family roots he has planted within his children.
Russ is survived by his loving mother Ramona Sinner; beloved children - Andrew (Haley) Sinner; Amber (Sean) Johnson; Courtney Armstrong; and Chelsey Sinner (Martin Robles). His siblings Mark (Carol) Sinner; Steve (Joyce) Sinner; Peggy (Mike) Brillhart; Rick (Laurie) Sinner. Those who called him Papa/Pop-Eye; Chase & Mason; Kaden & Katelynn; Ryder, Knox, & Sawyer; Sebastian & Ariel; and Preston & Paisley. And faithful partner Faye Bulman-Miller. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that Russ’s faith, love, and compassion will live on in each of us. His music will continue to play, his kindness will echo in our lives, and his faith will shine as a guiding light to our Savior Christ Jesus.
A celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, February 23rd, at Westway Christian Church, 1701 W 27th St, Scottsbluff, NE 69361. In Russ’s spirit please wear jeans or khakis to the service.
