

Walter Ferguson, 84 of Scottsbluff entered into rest Monday, June 7, 2010 at Heritage Estates in Gering. His services will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. the First Christian Church, 21st and Avenue A, Scottsbluff with Pastor Michael Stein officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military honors by the Nebraska Army National Guard. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be sent to the First Christian Church of Scottsbluff. Walter was born on a farm outside of Letcher, South Dakota on December 7, 1925 to True and Anna Ferguson and came to Nebraska in March 1927. He received his education at several Country Schools in the Panhandle and Goshen Wyoming completing his education in Minatare High School. His class graduated in 1944. In 1949, he received his GED with an 87% average. He joined the Army spending 13 months on Yokohoma, Japan attaining the rank of Sergeant fourth Class. He spent his time in the 407 Harbor Craft Transportation Corp in the Harbor Masters Office. After the service he began work at the Scottsbluff National Bank for one year and then went to the City of Scottsbluff Water Department. He worked his way up the employment ladder and after 44 years retired as City Clerk-City Treasurer and asst City Manager. He has been retired since 1990. On August 6, 1950, he married Jean Wardman. Of this union there were two children, Randall Ray and Cheryl Ann. He was a charter member and spent 17 years in Scottsbluff PEBSQSA singing with a grand bunch of men. He had 24 years perfect attendance in the Kiwanis Club. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and the VFW. He attended the Church of Christ in Minatare and in 1935 joined the First Christian Church in Scottsbluff and was a member until his death. He served as Elder and Elder Emeritus and sang in the choir. Survivors include wife Jean; son Rande and wife Mary of Texas; daughter Cheryl of Denver and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers Ronald, Robert, Raymond and Harold.
