

Willard G. Meyer, 89 of Gering, Nebraska died Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at Heritage Health Care Center in Gering. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 23, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Pastor Linda Battello officiating. Inurnment will follow service at West Lawn Cemetery with military honors by the Nebraska National Guard. Cremation was at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. Memorials have been established to the MS Foundation or to the Heritage Health Care Center. Willard was born on May 14, 1916 in Wellfleet, Nebraska to George and Laura (Seaton) Meyer. He graduated from North Platte High School. He entered the United States Army on March 4, 1942, served during WWII and was honorably discharged on March 21, 1945. Willard was united in marriage to Lucille Gutherless on May 24, 1946 in Curtis, Nebraska. They lived various places including North Platte, Mitchell moving to Gering in 1991, where he reside until his death. He was employed with Magnolia Mobile Homes for over 20 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gering, Mitchell Legion , Gering VFW Post #1681, Elks Lodge # 1367 and AARP. Willard enjoyed square dancing, camping and gardening. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren following their activities and events. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife Lucille; children Myron (Mary Kay) Meyer of Gering, Sandy (Kurt) Gompert of Mitchell, Sheryl Metz of Cheyenne, Wy, Kevyn (Nanette) Meyer of Greeley, Co, Sharla (Doug) Willard of North Platte and Chuck (Brenda) Meyer of Pampa, TX; grandchildren Chad (Malissa) Meyer of Scottsbluff, Nick Gompert of Chicago, Doug Gompert and Greg Gompert both of Mitchell, Tiffany Metz and Brittany Metz both of Cheyenne, Zac Metz of Chadron, Wes Metz of Wichita, KS, Andy Meyer and Jeff Meyer both of Greeley, CO, Lindsey Meyer of College Station, TX, Courtney Meyer of Pampa, TX, Amber Willard and Alex Willard both of North Platte; one great grandson Cameron Meyer of Scottsbluff. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Frances (Meyer) Hazen, brother Alfred Meyer, son Ronald Dean Meyer and grandson Kenneth Willard Meyer.
