Donald Wayne Roberts, 73, passed away peacefully at his home on April 23, 2017. He was born on November 27, 1943 to Horace and Virginia (Little) Roberts in Dallas, TX. Don was raised in Seagoville, Texas and attended Seagoville High School where he excelled at both Football and Track, earning Varsity letters all four years and many post season accolades. He graduated in 1963. After graduation Don entered the Navy on the GI Bill. During his tenure in the Navy he was a Rescue Swimmer, where he saved the lives of Naval Aviators who crashed in the ocean. Upon his completion of duty to the Navy, he began a sales career that spanned over six decades. His calling and passion was in the carpet industry. He started in the residential sector, eventually moving to the Commercial side of the business. He opened a handful of stores either by himself or with partners over the years and was an extremely hard worker. In the early 90s, he founded Commercial Floors & Interiors, and made it into a very successful business that he managed until his death. Don never meet a stranger, and would talk to anybody anywhere. He once told Tom Landry jokes on an elevator ride trying to get the legendary coach to laugh, in which he did not succeed. He listened intently to everyone he was talking with and always treated people with respect. If he was not reading about Golf, watching Golf, recording Golf so he could watch it again and learning more about Golf, you could probably find him on the golf course playing golf, time permitting. He would always find time for a quick bucket. While Golf was Don’s passion, gambling was his hobby. If there was a three day holiday weekend, you would not find him on the golf course. He and DiAnn would be at the casino, either the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas or the Horseshoe in Shreveport. Don also loved investing and spent many hours watching business television and tracking the stock market. When he was not watching business television, he enjoyed rooting on his favorite team-the Dallas Cowboys. Of all of his accomplishments in life, there was nothing he loved more or was more proud of than his family. His heart would swell and burst with pride at the mere thought of those he loved. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 36 years, DiAnn Roberts; children: Lisa Loftus, Scott Roberts and wife, Heather and Chris Curd and wife, Amy; grandchildren: Savannah Martin and husband, Mitchell, Tyson Loftus, Colton Curd, Dillon Curd, Wyatt Curd, Tatum Roberts, Landry Roberts and Nolan Roberts; siblings: Bill Naylor and wife, Cynthia, Sandra Covington and husband, David and Linda Griffin and husband, Jim; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss him dearly. Preceding him in death are his parents Horace and Virginia Roberts and his niece, Daryll Paige Crisman. Don had many outstanding traits and was an outstanding husband, daddy, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend and a wonderful human being. He was loyal beyond measure and was an inspiration to all those that encountered him. He had a huge personality, one that does not come along very often, and will be sorely missed by many.
