Fernando “Pop” Gonzalez, age 81, with family at his side, went to be with the Lord freeing him from his battle with cancer, on December 29, 2016 in Corsicana, Texas. Fernando was born on September 23, 1935 in Ferris, Texas. From a very early age he enjoyed tinkering, which became his specialty. Fernando eventually found his way to Dallas, Texas and worked with “Dallas Ceramics”. In Dallas, Fernando found the love of his life, Julia. They were married on Valentine’s Day, 1957. Shortly after they were married, Fernando began his career as a heavy equipment operator, working for the City of Dallas. After 35 years he retired in Powell, Texas. Retirement didn’t set well with Fernando so he found work with the City of Hubbard fixing lawn mowers and cutting grass. He did this for another 10 years until he retired for the final time. Fixing lawnmowers and weed eaters became Fernando’s new found passion which fit well with his ability and passion to tinker. He would spend hours in his backyard piddling with his own lawn equipment. Fernando never hesitated to lend a helping hand if anyone needed help with yard work. Fernando is preceded in death by his parents, Epimenio & Zapopan Gonzalez of Mexico. Left with cherished memories to hold in their hearts is his adoring wife of 59 years, Julia H. Gonzales of Corsicana; daughter Josie Parras & husband David R. of Mansfield; son Edward Gonzalez & wife Wanda of Liberty Hill; daughter Julie Crittenden & husband Ty of Corsicana; son Pete Gonzalez of Corsicana; son Fernando Gonzalez Jr. of Royce City; daughter Irene Sanders of Corsicana; sister Elena Valdez of Dallas; grandchildren Robert, Hillary, Michael, Mallary, Biff, Crystal and Victoria; great grandchildren Noah, Isaiah, Logan, TJ, Hendrix and a host of nieces, nephews and other family loved ones and beloved friends.
