

She was born September 4, 1934 in Guatemala City to Eligio García Peralta and Hercilia Calderón. Hortencia was raised in Amatitlán, Guatemala. She had nine children, and worked multiple jobs in order to provide for them.
In her spare time, Hortencia enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, knitting for her family, and spending time with her loved ones. Her family will always remember her as a happy, selfless, loving person who always wanted the best for others and enjoyed life. One proud accomplishment of hers was that she passed her U.S. citizenship test at the age of 76 and became a U.S. citizen.
Hortencia is preceded in death by both her parents, her son Ervin Santos, and her grandson Carlos García.
She is survived by her children, Jorge, Julio, César, Telma Carlos, René, and Aura; her 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandkids. She was loved by her two son-in-laws, 5 daughter-in-laws, nephews, nieces, her church family, and everyone else that knew her.
Hortencia will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her. A Visitation and Celebration of Life for Hortencia will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Crossing Baptist Church for those who wish to attend. There will also be a Committal Service on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Roselawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, with a procession from the funeral home to the graveside 15 minutes before the Committal begins.
