James Burty “J.B.” Jett, 90, passed away on July 30, 2015 in Plano, TX. He was born on May 11, 1925 to John James and Burty (Cory) Jett in Dallas, TX. J.B. was born and raised in the Kleberg (Rylie) area and was part of a family that were well known as being pioneers in a community whose history includes having roads and highways named after them and also responsible for the first cabin built in Dallas. Upon graduation from high school, J.B. joined the United States Navy. He proudly served his country for almost four years, including World War II, one of his jobs being the operator of the mine sweeper that swept the Pacific ocean floor and during down-time he was the barber to all on the ship with him. J.B. was a deeply patriotic man and always had to have his flag flying. He was a member of the VFW Post 3905 in Kaufman and the American Legion in Gun Barrel City. J.B. loved being outside and doing things with his hands, such as planting flowers and truly had a “green thumb”. He also enjoyed delivering to the needy with his American Legion friends and was able to teach his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “PawPaw”, that “everyone doesn’t always have everything”. J.B. also loved to ride his Kubota tractor around and at one time had a 1964 Cadillac convertible that he drove in parades. Preceding him in death are his parents, 12 brothers and sisters, and the love of his life, Bernice “Red” Jett, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2010. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Linda Curnel and husband Roger of Carrollton; sons Jimmy Jett of Decatur, AL and Terry Jett and wife Susan of Quinlan, TX; grandchildren James and Amy Curnel, Kenneth and DeeDee Pruett, Ely Jett, Josh Jett, Emma Jett, Jason Jett and Sydney Jett; great-grandchildren Cody, Casey, Braden, Allison, Nicholas, Jesse and Julie; great-great grandson Jasper; brother Thurman Jett and wife Alice and many extended family and friends that will miss him dearly. Visitation will be 9:30 – 10:30 on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 followed by the funeral service at 10:30, all at Roselawn Funeral Home, Seagoville, TX. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens where he will be laid to rest by his wife in the Garden of Valley View. Please leave condolences for the family at www.Roselawn-Funerals.com.
