

Joseph was born on April 5, 1944 in Jefferson County, Texas to parents, Myrtle Smith and Kelly Maddox. He attended Beaumont Independent School District and afterward resided in Los Angeles, California. He relocated to Dallas, Texas in 1980 and graduated from ATI Technical School in 1985 as a licensed/certified mechanic. Joseph also received ATI's distinguished honor as a "perfect attendance" graduate.
His working career included the field of building construction, Commercial Licensed Driver and HALCO fencing in Dallas, Texas. He was extremely gifted in working with his hands, and a great outdoorsman. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and an avid collector of antique items.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle R. Hunter, siblings, Wendell Smith, Elnora Griffin and Donald Hunter.
Surviving to cherish his memories, are his son, Joseph Maddox, Jr. and siblings, Roy (Roger) Hunter, Larry Hunter, Linda Hunter and Cheryl McGilvery. Nieces and Nephews, Rayfanette and Wanda Smith, Wendell Smith Jr., John C. Harris, Tonya Davis, Cynthia Seastruck, Donna Hunter, Ashli and April Hunter, Phillip Hunter, Anthony and Kenneth Lee, Tony McGilvery Jr., Bonnie Marvin, and Charles Bassett, Jr., and an enormous host of great nieces/nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Memorial Services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel.
