After graduating from Giles County High School in 1960, Larry pursued higher education at Martin Junior College on a basketball scholarship, a testament to his athleticism and determination. On June 17, 1961, he married Sandra Fay Miles, beginning a partnership that would span decades. The couple welcomed their daughter, Cay, in 1962, and their son, Cody, followed in 1963 after the family had moved to Dallas, Texas.
Larry built a successful career, working for Jones-Blair Paint as an Operations Manager before transitioning to The Neogard Corporation, a commercial roofing and waterproofing construction company, where his work took him to cities across the United States. In 1976, Larry's adventurous spirit led him and his family to Honolulu, Hawaii, where they lived for two years before returning to Texas. Settling in Scurry, Larry and Sandra fulfilled their dream by acquiring 33 acres of land and constructing their dream home.
Larry was an ordained deacon and served as Chairman of the Deacon’s Board at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church for many years. He was a loyal servant for both the Church and the community.
In retirement, Larry dedicated himself to the Triple C Ranch, where he tended to his land and animals, and cherished his "pet" cows. His days were filled with the simplicity and joy of rural life, a fitting reward for a lifetime of hard work and devotion to his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Thomas Alton Cole; and sister, Hattie “Jewel” Thompson, all of Pulaski, Tennessee.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Cole; his two children, Cay Cole and her spouse, Tam Thurmon of Fort Worth, Texas, and Cody Cole of Kaufman, Texas; and his cherished grandchildren include William Joseph Cole of Arlington, Texas, Christopher Scott Holley and Mary Todd-Holley of McKinney, Texas, Beau Casey Thurmon of Fort Worth, Texas, and Bostyn Lace Holley of McKinney, Texas. Larry also leaves behind a great-grandson, Casen Joseph Cole of Arlington, Texas, along with numerous other family members and friends who will forever hold his memory dear.
Larry was a man who believed deeply in kindness and generosity, and his family wishes to honor his legacy by suggesting contributions to a cause close to their hearts. Please consider making a donation in Larry's name to St. Jude's:
