

Sammie Nelson Ashabranner, Sr., 86, passed away on November 23, 2015 in Dallas, TX. He was born on April 1, 1929 to John and Myrtle (Daugherty) Ashabranner in Burnet, TX. Sammie was a dedicated father and grandfather and loved his family dearly. Affectionately known as “Horsefly” by his grandchildren, he enjoyed time with all of the grandchildren. He proudly served his country aboard the USS Mississippi while enlisted in the Navy. Sammie was a milkman for over 40 years, working for both Superior Dairy and Cabell’s, which also entitled him to the nickname “Sammie the Milkman” when playing pool. He was also a member of the American Legion. Preceding him in death are his parents, wife of 32 years Dorothy Ashabranner, grandson Gaylon Nobles, Jr., granddaughter Cherry Ashabranner, grandson Stephen Ashabranner, Jr., grandson David Nabors, Jr., and son-in-law Samuel Dunlap. Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Sammie Ashabranner, Jr. of Balch Springs, TX, Sharon Dunlap of Port St. Lucie, FL, Sandra Fields and husband, Charles of Port St. Lucie, FL, Susan Edwards and husband, Donald of Greenville, TX, Stephanie McFarlin of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Shirley Wilson and husband, Johnny of Kemp, TX and Stephen Ashabranner and wife Lillian of Seagoville, TX; grandchildren: Jeffrey, Christie, Warren, Wendell, Amanda, Kristin, Taylor, Bradley, Johnny J, and Tesla; great-grandchildren: William, Bradley, Samantha, Rebecca, Alaina, Jaedyn, Alyson, Timothy, Joshua, Jose, Cristianna, Taylee, Tinslee and Teslee; great-great granddaughter, Sophia; and brother Jack Ashabranner; many extended family members and a host of friends that will miss him dearly. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 27, 2015 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Seagoville, TX where he will be laid to rest by his wife in the Garden of Peace.
