

was a Monterey resident since 1960.
William served in World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War. Retired after 22 years of military service, William returned to school and completed his undergraduate degree at San Jose State University and Masters’ In Education from The Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies. He was a Teacher in the Monterey Unified School District until his retirement in 1994 after 23 years of distinguished service. He continued to substitute teach in the district for eight years after his retirement, until 2003.
He was an avid golfer, and founding member and president of the Ebony Seaview Golfer’s Association that taught golf lessons to minority youths. He served in many civic organizations: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Community Partnership for Youth Program; Prince-Hall Masonic, Retired Men’s Social Club, Pan Hellenic Council and The Christmas Angel Tree Program at First Baptist Church Pacific Grove.
William is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 57 years; daughter, Gloria; sons, William Jr., (Starra); Joseph Rodney (Cynthia); Yvette and Yvonne (Nieces); grandchildren: William III, Britney, Derek, Joseph Jr., Camille; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may pay their respects at Bayside Community Mortuary, 1610 Noche Buena, Seaside, Ca. from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Wednesday, January 25, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Pacific Grove, CA on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 11:00AM. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Mission Memorial Park, Seaside.
