Albert Lawrence Silva died at his home in Seattle, surrounded by his family, on Friday, July 28th after a courageous fight against cancer. Al was born in Mount Vernon, New York to Caroline Baltazar and Manuel Silva. Al grew up in New York, then joined the Navy, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was stationed in Fort Warden, WA, and made Seattle his home after he left the service. Al worked at Pacific Iron and Metal for 52 years, where he was Vice-President of Operations. Al loved fishing, hunting, and driving his truck; he was generous, loving, and had a way of making strangers into friends wherever he went. He was much loved by his large family, and is survived by his wife Lorraine to whom he was married to for 55 years; his sister Lillian Nicita of New York; his children Jane and Buz Britton, Dan Silva, Toni Silva, Pete and Jamie Silva, and Frances and Virginia Silva; his 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and many other family members, colleagues, and friends, who will all dearly miss "Big Al". His family would like to thank the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, the UW Hospital, and Providence Hospice, and ask that in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to any of the above organizations in Al's memory. A memorial service celebrating Albert's life will be held on Saturday, August 5th at 4:30 pm at Shoreline Community Church on 185th and 1st NE in Shoreline.
