Alice was born in Missoula, Mt. on December 14, 1922 and passed away in Mukilteo, Wa. at the age of 94. She lived in Milltown, a small town 7 miles east of Missoula. After finishing high school, she worked doing clerical at the Milltown Mill. Alice met Daniel Swierenga and they were married at Our Savior's Lutheran church in Milltown on June 5th, 1943. They moved to Seattle, Wa. and bought an apartment house. Dan went off to serve as a tail gunner in World War II and Alice continued to do clerical work in downtown Seattle. Two children came along and Alice continued working until number three and four arrived and decided it was time to move to the small unknown town of Mountlake Terrace, Wa., where they bought a brand new home in 1955. About thirteen years later there was a vacancy in the electrical office where Dad worked and Mom decided to apply. She then worked for the State of Washington in the Mobile Home Division, driving every day from Mountlake Terrace to south Seattle, until her retirement at the age of 78.
Alice attended Denny Park Lutheran after moving to Mountlake Terrace. Her daughter found a small church and attended summer Bible school and thought that her mom might like to transfer there from Seattle. That was the start of Moms life, love and faithfulness to her church Bethesda Lutheran. She faithfully attended choir practices, bible studies, congregational meetings. She played the organ for weekly Sunday Services as well as weddings and funerals for 50 years!
Alice enjoyed taking road trips, playing the slots and watching baseball and football games in person with her sons as well as on TV. She was very knowledgeable of players names and game statistics, but most of all she loved music and her church.
Alice was preceded in death by her mother and father, Lucy and Alfred Langaas, husband, Daniel Swierenga, son, Mark Swierenga, sister in-law, Thelma Reina, nieces, Cathy Jo Rice, Tere Falk and Penny Britsch.
