In many ways, Al Bek was the heart and soul of construction in Seattle during his 33 years working for Howard S. Wright Construction Company. He worked as an engineer on the Space Needle and retired as President of HSWCC after the completion of the Columbia Center. Al truly played an important role in the development of Seattle?s Skyline. Al was a graduate of the University of Michigan and an ensign in the Navy during the war. He loved Hawaii and golfing. His favorite hobby was working in his beautiful yard. Al passed away at age 81 on September 26, 2002, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 1989. He loved Dorothy dearly, and held her close to his heart up until the moment he died. Al was devoted to his family, and is survived by his daughters, Gail Stockman and Deborah Kinder, his son, Brian Bek, daughter-in-law, Frankie Wooden, and his grandsons, Collin Kinder and Zachary Stockman.
