Ammon McWashington Jr.

Ammon McWashington, Jr. 80, passed away at his Leschi home at the age of 80, on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Born in Conroe, Texas, to Ammon McWashington, Sr. and Hattie Parker McWashington, Ammon built a life defined by dedication to education and family.

After graduating from Washington State University where he starred as a halfback and part of the famed 1965 WSU Cardiac Kids, Ammon devoted over 30 years to Seattle Public Schools. As an educator, he touched countless lives and made lasting contributions to his community. He served students as the assistant principal at Cleveland High School and Principal at Ingram High School and Garfield High School, leading with vision and compassion. In 1996, Ammon was appointed as the District Coordinator of Athletics and retired as Executive Director of Student Services in the Seattle Public School District. His commitment to education reflected his belief in the power of learning to transform lives.

Playing golf, preparing to play golf, and talking about playing golf weekly with his son Shawn was one of Ammon’s favorite pastimes. The two of them created cherished memories on the course together. He was a man of warmth, integrity, and quiet strength who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Coram; his son, Ammon Shawn McWashington and daughter-in-law Julissa McWashington; four cherished grandchildren, Victoria Crowser, Phillip Crowser, Yasmin Betancourt, and Ava Betancourt; and his sister, Louise McWashington (Leroy L. Glenn) and son in law, Jerald Crowser.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cesily McWashington Crowser; his siblings, Bennie McWashington and Gladys McWashington Tevis; and his parents.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at Garfield Community Center at 2323 E Cherry Street; Seattle, WA (2pm-4pm).
