
Longtime Seattle businesswoman died June 13, 2004 at the Greenwood Point Adult Family Home in Issaquah. She was 88 years old.
Mrs. Osbun was born in Seattle on Nov. 29, 1915, the youngest of three children, to Stephen Kipper and Mary Reis Kipper, Austrian-German immigrants. Her brothers, Joseph W. Kipper and Steven J. Kipper, achieved notable careers in business and preceded her in death.
Mrs. Osbun married Robert Osbun of Seattle on Feb. 7, 1942. He died in 1986 at the age of 83. The Osbuns were avid travelers and spent time exploring such diverse places as Thailand, Egypt, Japan, Panama, Mexico, Denmark and other European Countries. They resided in West Seattle during their 44 years of married life and their home was a lively place for entertaining friends. Mrs. Osbun especially enjoyed cooking, but she was also an enthusiastic collector of souvenirs from her travels, and she furnished her home with original works of art and ceramics.
Mrs. Osbun graduated from Seattle?s Franklin High School in 1933 where she majored in the commercial course. She later received diplomas from the American Business Institute and Edison Vocational School.
Her business career began when she was scarcely out of high school when she went to work as a salesperson at Kress Ten Cent Store. Between 1934 and 1936 she held a position as bookkeeper at the K&E Oyster Company. For a number of years she worked as a bookkeeper and secretary at I. Lachman Sons Co.
Later Mrs. Osbun went into the banking business, working as an executive and manager for National Bank of Commerce and its successor organizations, including Bank of America. She helped the Bank enter the computer age. In 1975 she was recognized as Businesswoman of the Year by the Washington Federation of Business and Professional Women?s Clubs. She served as president of the Totem Business and Professional Women?s Club in 1974 and 1975. Her business colleagues remember her for her warm and compassionate nature and her high level of management skills. Mrs. Osbun retired in December 1980.
Mrs. Osbun was a devoted Christian Scientist and for many years served in various organizational capacities, including First Reader, at the Sixth Church of Christ Scientist in West Seattle. She was also a Christian Science Practitioner. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and active in AARP.
Mrs. Osbun is survived by cousins Katherine Kipper Armstrong, Seattle, Joseph Kipper, Brewster, and Harold Kipper, Clyde Hill and nieces and nephews Judy Butrim, Bellevue, Ellen Kipper-Heller, Seattle, Paul J. Kipper, Bellevue, Phillip Kipper, San Francisco, Jim Kipper, Kirkland, John Kipper, Bothell, Richard Kipper, Maui, Hawaii, Robert Kipper, Bothell and Frank Osbun, Normandy Park. She is also survived by her loving friends at Greenwood Point Adult Family Home.
