
Arthur H. Jong was born on July 20, 1919, in New York City and died in Seattle on November 22, 2003. He is survived by Hazel Peggy C. Jong, his wife of 60 years, and his children, Elaine Jong and Rodney Jong, Seattle; grandsons Rodney Jong, Jr., San Francisco, Brian Riggs, SF, and Steven Riggs, Seattle; brothers Andrew Jong, Jamaica, NY, Alan Jong, NYC, Alvin Tsang, Hamburg, Germany; sisters Ruby Yuan H.Y., Rochester, NY, Rose Chow Jack, Oceanside, CA, Betty Lue William, Los Angeles, Janet Jong, LA, Nora Jong, LA, Linda Tung George, LA, Cordelia Hwang Warren, LA, Bo Hing Au Kui Ching, Vancouver, BC; nephew Alfred Tsang Golden Valley, MN; and many nephews and nieces.
Arthur attended Ling Nam Academy in Hong Kong, Pennington School, New Jersey, and New York University where he studied business and accounting. He served as a Special Agent in the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps in the Central Burma and India Burma campaigns in WWII. At the end of the war, he managed the family import business, and then worked at Long Island Bank in New York, where he was Vice President until 1980. In 1980, he moved to Seattle, and worked for Seattle Trust which became Key Bank until 1989, when he retired from his position as Assistant Vice President and Assistant EDP Auditor.
Throughout his life, Arthur made many friends who appreciated his good humor, logical mind, optimism, and sense of stewardship. He raised his family in Garden City, NY, and moved to Seattle in 1980. He also had a home in Naples, FL. He loved gardening, travel, studying Chinese art objects, cooking, and socializing with friends. He was a founding member of the Chinese Center on Long Island in 1960, and served as President, 1964-1966.
