June was born May 6, 1935 in Anderson, Missouri to the late Roy O. and Mary O. Bond. She moved with her parents to Hood River, Oregon where she grew up with her brother, the late Leroy Bond. She married the late William H. Swart in Hermiston, Oregon. Together they raised four children in Seattle, Washington.
June held a number of positions in retail and customer service, working for such companies as Sears, Gov-Mart Bazaar, and Dan’s Belltown Market. She also operated a home daycare, in part to watch many of her beloved grandchildren grow. After retirement, she stayed active by running a small catering service.
June, affectionately known as “Gramma June” to family, friends and customers alike, was known for her generosity, sense of humor and open invitation to dinner. Her kitchen was sacred to her; her kitchen table the center of lively family gatherings and endless stories. She was an avid reader, gardener Bingo player and lover of neighborhood squirrels and birds.
June is survived by her children: W. David (Susan) Swart of Des Moines, Washington; Sheryl Pessein of Seattle, Washington; Linda (Bobby) Rains of Seattle, Washington; and Steven (Tammy) Swart of Seattle, Washington; as well as nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mary Bond; her brother, Leroy Bond; her husband, William Swart; and her granddaughter, Lisa Swart.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 2pm at Yarington’s Funeral Home, located at 10708 16th Avenue SW, Seattle, WA 98146. The family wishes to thank Highline Medical Center and Highline Hospice for their compassionate care.
