Beulah Agnes (Tindall, Biehl) Green, born January 17, 1917, near Enid, Oklahoma, passed away on June 9, 2016, at the age of 99. Beulah was the oldest child of five born to Hazel Agnes (Morris) and William James Tindall. At the age of seven, she and brother, Harry Tindall, moved with their parents to Kalama, Washington, and sometime later to Seattle, where her brothers, Ray and Robert, and sister Leola, were born, and the family lived in the Wallingford district. Beulah married John F Biehl in 1935. They moved to their home in Laurelhurst with their two older children, Muriel Elaine (Biehl, Shonk) Mueller, and John F Biehl Jr in about 1944. There they lived a charmed life that included road trips to National Parks, dance parties and large family gatherings at which Beulah played the perfect hostess. In 1947 their third child, Nancy J (Biehl) Noe, was born. Beulah is remembered by the family for her multiple talents in crafts, cooking, sewing, knitting, artistic interests, and her talent for making everyone welcome in their home. She was a wonderful dancer, sewing her own square dance dresses - and duplicate dresses for a set of dolls - as well as making fancy outfits and a wedding dress for her younger daughter.
Beulah and John Biehl were divorced in the late 50s, and with John Jr (Jack) and Nancy, Beulah moved to the Lock Haven Apartments in Ballard. She took typing and bookkeeping courses and worked as a hostess at the old Skipper's restaurant before taking a position as hostess and bookkeeper at the 6th Avenue Motor Inn in downtown Seattle. In 1960, Beulah married Maurice (Maury) Green and they moved to lower Fremont area of Ballard. After Maury had worked at Boeing for a number of years, he and Beulah started a sign business together. In the mid-70s they moved to their home on 67th and Fremont and moved their Hi-Sign business to nearby Aurora Ave N.
Retirement years were filled with activities for Beulah and Maury, from golf to lawn bowling to singing and entertaining as a member of the Humdingers, a group of seniors who performed at clubs, senior centers and retirement communities around the Seattle area. She assisted her husband Maury in his magic shows, and was a great organizer for the clubs they belonged to over the years. She loved animals - often seen on her daily dog walking routine, where she met and visited with many neighbors. She continued her artistic pursuits, creating handmade Christmas ornaments using old jewelry and remnants of cloth from her many sewing projects. Her home was decorated with handmade items, and figurines collected over the years. Beulah, most of all, loved to visit with friends and family, and had a knack for anticipating the needs of others.
Beulah is survived by her brother Robert Tindall, her son, John F Biehl Jr and family, and her daughter Nancy (Biehl) Noe, and the children and grandchildren of her predeceased daughter, Muriel (Biehl, Shonk) Mueller. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Maury (Maurice) Green, by her brothers Ray Tindall and Harry Tindall, and her sister Leola Chartier and her granddaughter, Theresa May (Biehl) Broussard.
Beulah suffered with dementia the last few years of her life, and died peacefully at The Cottages in Mill Creek. The family thanks The Cottages staff for their love and support during those four and half years.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 25th, 2016, at 2:00PM at the Evergreen Washelli chapel at 11111 Aurora Ave N. Seattle, WA 98133. Refreshments after service.
