Carol Theresa Conley was born Carol Theresa Tucker on Tuesday November 28, 1933 in Memphis, Tennessee, the second child of Sidney Tucker, Sr and Gertrude Jones. It was very early in her upbringing she established herself as a nurturer. Carol loved to share whatever she had in the way of money, toys, treats, candy, etc. with her siblings and friends at a young age. This was to become her enduring legacy, for her feeling was if she ate good, then everyone around her should. If there was a central theme to her life, it was that nothing that made her happier than to bring joy and smiles to others.
Carol attended Manassas High School and graduated in 1951. Shortly afterward, she embarked upon her career as a beautician, and worked in Arthur Miller's salon in her early adult years. It was here she met her future husband Leon Conley, who she wed April 16, 1959. Carol, Leon and family relocated from Memphis, Tennessee to Seattle, Washington in 1964. She continued to ply her trade as a beautician in Seattle at the First Lady and the Playboy, Virgie's Beauty Salon, Ruby's Hair Dome, Maude's Hair Design, until in 1985 she opened her own shop in her basement, to the delight of her former peers and employers. Carol maintained a very loyal clientele, some members remaining customers for close to 40 years. Carol retired from her career in her 70's due to health limitations, but she never abandoned her zeal for life, nor her desire to help others in need.
Carol was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witness on January 3, 1970. She was one of many women who provided refreshments for the men, women and children while Ryan Way Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses was being built, and she remained a devoted member of Ryan Way Congregation until her passing.
Carol loved to cook, and she loved good food, especially Southern cuisine. Some of her greatest joys came from gathering and socializing with her family and friends over a home cooked meal. Carol was the family historian; she had amazing recall for events that happened throughout her childhood on up through adulthood, which she could describe in vivid detail. Some of the most memorable times were at family gatherings with her siblings to reminisce on family stories, each one trying to top the other's family anecdote. Carol would become so animated in her storytelling the spectators would be doubled over, some crying tears of laughter. Carol appreciated those moments because her joy was seeing other people enjoy themselves in her presence.
On January 1, 2016, Carol passed in her sleep. It is only appropriate that someone so committed to seeing her loved ones get along with each other would leave the world peacefully. Carol was preceded in death by her parents Sidney Tucker, Sr and Gertrude (Jones) Taylor, her brothers Sidney Tucker, Jr and Moten Lee Tucker, and son John Timothy Tucker. She is survived by her children, Alice Jenkins, Frederick Tucker, Ellen Conley Fisher, Leslie Conley, and Edward Conley, grandchildren Mandel Scott, Jenell Jenkins, Se'Nina Caples, Kaegan Woods and Bria Fisher. She is also survived by siblings Thelma Covington, Shirley Boykin, Earlice Taylor, Daniel Taylor, Jr and Eugene Taylor to cherish her loving memory.
