

Charles, the only child of Leola (Davis) Byrd and Madison Craft, was born on December 4, 1932 in Smithville, Texas. Charles is survived by his five children; three sons and two daughters. He is survived by his children Glen Anthony, Shari Lynn, Charles Clinton, Louis Opelousas, Dee Ann and maternal nephew, Willie Lee (Peter) Bartley, whom he also raised. His grandchildren are Chanteal Donay, Brianna Marie, Carlos Antione (oldest grandchild), Robert Clarence, Anthony Benjamin, Charles Clinton (Jr.), Christopher Allen, Victor Carrol, Destinee Marie, Alisha Quentell, Terisha Eunice, Louis Opelousas (Jr), Maria Sandra Lynn, Sheila Denise, Whitney Firena. He has one Great Granddaughter, Camille Nichelle.
Charles proudly gave his country 25 years of service in the United States Army from 18 January 1952 thru 16 November 1976. He began his military career in the 6th Infantry Division 63rd Infantry Regiment at Fort Ord, California. He transferred to Fort Bragg, North Carolina assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division as a member of the prestigious 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment where he was honorably retired. As a veteran, he continued enjoying local and state attractions as a truck driver for Union Pacific Railroad Company.
