Charles “Chuck” H. Eyers Jr. passed away of natural causes on September 10, 2021 at the age of 95. He was born on June 26, 1926, in Minot, ND to Charles and Ella Eyers, who eventually moved their family to Burien, WA.
Charles Jr. served in the U.S. Army during WWII and fought in the Battle of Attu. Upon the end of the war, he moved back to Seattle, married Margaret Foster and started a family.
Charles began building and racing his own cars and ultimately became very well known on the racing circuit, collecting multiple awards and trophies. He caught the attention of Carroll Shelby, who offered him a job at Shelby American, in Venice, CA. which he declined in order to stay close to his family. Instead, he opened Eyers Automotive, in Burien, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2000. It was a Burien institution that employed three generations of Eyer’s family, until well into the 21st Century.
Charles always had a natural affinity for engineering and loved to build and tinker. He once taught himself to disassemble and reassemble carburetors blindfolded, and would occasionally perform this trick for stunned mechanics.
He loved to share stories of his time on the road and his basic training in Fort Riley, KS, but he mostly loved sharing stories about his family and their history. He loved his family very, very much.
Charles’ passing was preceded by his wife, Margaret, and their three children: Terry, Caryn and Barbara. He is survived by his best friend “Shadow”, his grandchildren, his siblings Maureen Sasonoff and Douglas Eyers, their extended families and many friends.
A memorial reception gathering for Charles will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133.
