Siony, also known as “Nanay” to all, was born on August 29, 1926 in Abucay, Bataan, Philippines. She passed away on May 9, 2025 at Providence Hospital Everett, Washington. She was the second of the 6 children of Raymundo Salandanan and Generosa Dacion. Siony graduated from Arellano High School in Balanga, Bataan and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Education majoring in Mathematics from Philippine Women's University, Manila. She was a grade school teacher for English and Mathematics and later became an assistant principal of Abucay North Elementary School until she moved to America in the early 1990’s.
Nanay Sioning met her husband, Patrocinio De Guzman while teaching at a Catholic School in Malolos, Bulacan and they married on December 8, 1957. Their whirlwind romance lasted for 67 years. She cherished being a mother to Malou, Joji, and Joel.
Nanay Sioning was a very serious, yet caring person. Her smile and kind soul will be greatly missed by many. She was known for her stories, humor, and most importantly her deep devotion to Mama Mary. Back in the Philippines she was appointed as the president of Hiyas De Maria for 11 years, a religious women’s group in her hometown. This type of devotion extended for the remainder of her life. We could always count on Nanay to pray as she always had a rosary on her hand.
Nanay Sioning’s love for her family knew no bounds, extending to relatives and friends and beyond through her kindness, prayers, and teachings. She will be deeply missed for her caring nature, bright smile, and generous spirit. Nanay will be forever cherished by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who were fortunate to know her. Her legacy will leave on through the countless lives she touched throughout her nearly century-long life.
Rest in Peace Nanay.
You will forever be in our hearts.
