Corazon Gamos Mortel was born on November 29, 1929 in Gumaca, Quezon, Philippines to Jose and Julia Gamos. She had an elder sister Rosario, a younger brother Alfredo, and two younger sisters Loreto and Angelita.
While visiting relatives in Odiongan, Romblon, she met Santiago Mortel. They married soon after in 1949. She was a Navy wife, moving all over the US to wherever Santiago was stationed. When he retired from the Navy in 1969, they decided that Seattle, Washington was the place they wanted to call home.
Corazon enjoyed being a homemaker. She loved cooking and would share her recipes with anyone who asked. Her garden was her pride and joy. Whenever the weather was nice, you could find her outside working in it or just sitting and birdwatching.
Family was very important to Corazon and she was a mother figure to many relatives. She helped care for many nieces and nephews, then went on to help their children when she could. She also had two children of her own. Her biggest wish was fulfilled when she finally became a grandmother at the age of 78.
