

WA - Darlene Dolores Cohen was born in Seattle, WA on 22 Oct 1935. She was the first child of Morris Joseph Cohen and Delores Margaret Bourne Cohen. Darlene was raised during the post Vaudeville era and pre second world war. With her sister Dianne Doris Cohen, they sang, danced, and entertained troops to assist in the war effort as the "Dancing Cohen Sisters."
Darlene grew up in north Seattle and attended Loyal Heights Elementary, James Monroe Middle School and Ballard High School where she was a cheerleader, worked on the yearbook and was proud to be a Beaver. She learned to drive along the winding Golden Gardens Drive.
Darlene began working for the Seattle Times and attended the University of Washington joining the Delta Zeta sorority.
On 13 August 1955 with her sorority sisters, under 21, they helped her gain access into Coe's Dance Club in what today is Northgate Way and Roosevelt Way area. There she met the love of her life and future husband Kenneth M. Lane. They became engaged on 22 Oct 1955 and married 9 Jun 1956. They were married for sixty-five years before Kenny passed away in Sep 2021.
Darlene is survived by her four children, Terry (Scottsdale, AZ), Laurie (Rick Heston, Martha Lake, WA), Ken Jr. (Joyce, Seattle, WA), and Jeff (Diane, North Bend, WA). She has nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Darlene was a warm, engaging, wonderful, caring, compassionate, friendly, smiling mother. She taught us about love and how to love others. She taught us the importance of family, birthdays and holidays which were always celebrated together.
