Doreen W. Thomas, 90, passed away peacefully, with family at her side, at sunset on October 5, 2009, in Seattle, Washington. She was born in Saanich, British Columbia, and resided in the greater Seattle area for most of her life.
She was a thoughtful, compassionate, and caring mother, wife, teacher, sister, and daughter. A long-time active member of Seattle's University Congregational Church, she served on numerous committees and was a past member of the bell choir. Travelling, walking, gardening, theater, music, and especially spending time with family and friends were favorite pastimes.
She is survived by her two sons and two daughters-in-law Jim Thomas and Theresa Barker of Seattle, WA, John and Karen Thomas of Bainbridge Island, WA; four grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Lois Weaver of Encino, CA; numerous nephews and their families, and a long list of cherished friends. She will be sorely missed by all.
"To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable; and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages with open hearts; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common. This is to be my symphony." - William Henry Channing
