Elvin "Bud" Tharp passed away peacefully on October 28, 2010 after an extended illness. He was born on April 12, 1925 in Sioux City, Iowa to Ruth Wingeier Tharp and Wayne Tharp. He served in the U.S. Army's 537th Unit in France under General Patton, and was discharged in 1946. He worked in the "pork and bean" grocery business, retiring from QFC in 1997, and will be remembered by the children who went through his checkstand to receive their treats he gave them. He will also be remembered by his family and friends for his delightful sense of humor and his love of acting out his stories. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Lois Palmer Tharp, son Courtney (Kathleen), daughter Cynthia (Micheal), grandsons Andrew and Stephen Tharp, sisters Evelyn Reiste and Dorothy Hill of Iowa and his very special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Bernice Tharp, Inez Adams and brother Robert Tharp. He will be deeply missed, but not forgotten by his loving family and devoted friends.
