With profound sadness — and steadfast hope in our Lord’s Resurrection — we announce the peaceful passing of Emorfia “Morfo” (Tourikis) Lazarou, a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished mama (mother), treasured yiayia (grandmother), loving daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, loyal friend, and faithful member of the Greek Orthodox community. She fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the age of 88, surrounded by the love and presence of her family. Her passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, a silence that can only be filled by the enduring memory of her warmth and love.
Emorfia was born on February 8, 1938, in Domvrena, Greece, the daughter of Panagiotis and Sotiria Tourikis. She was raised in a humble yet hardworking farming family, where life demanded resilience and sacrifice. From a young age, she worked tirelessly in the fields and lovingly cared for her younger siblings while her parents labored to support the household. These early experiences shaped her into a woman of remarkable strength, unwavering dedication, and deep compassion. Known for her warmth and devotion to both family and faith, she carried herself with dignity and grace. She also possessed a playful spirit—quick-witted and full of humor, she delighted in teasing those she loved, her mischievous smile and laughter bringing joy to gatherings and comfort to friends in even the simplest moments.
In her beloved village of Domvrena, Morfo met the love of her life, Vasili. Their courtship blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they were united in marriage in 1967. Together, they built a life grounded in love, mutual respect, and shared faith, going on to spend 57 devoted and loving years side by side—years filled with perseverance, sacrifice, and countless cherished memories.
In 1968, Emorfia and Vasili made the courageous decision to leave their homeland and begin a new life in the United States, seeking greater opportunity and a brighter future for their growing family. With the generous support and sponsorship of Theo George and Thea Maria Kost, they settled in Seattle, Washington, where they were embraced by extended family and a close-knit community. They arrived with their infant son, George, and were later blessed with two more children, daughter Voula and son Pete, completing their loving family.
In Seattle, Emorfia skillfully balanced the demands of work and family life with unwavering dedication. While helping support her household—including her work with Demetri Ski Sweater—she devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her children and nurturing a home deeply rooted in faith, culture, and tradition. As a devoted member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, she remained an active and faithful participant in parish life for many years. Through her involvement with Philoptochos, even into her later years, she extended kindness, generosity, and heartfelt hospitality to others, preserving and sharing the rich traditions of her Greek heritage with all who crossed her path.
Her greatest pride and most enduring legacy was her family, whom she loved with boundless devotion. Emorfia was the loving wife of the late Vasilios “Vasili” Lazarou and the proud and devoted mother of George, Voula, and Pete Lazarou. She was a beloved mother-in-law to Blue Lazarou and the deeply cherished yiayia of Alexandra, Vasiliki (Aliki), Emorfia (Mia), and Maria Lazarou, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride. She was preceded in death by her siblings Constandina Bakamus, Haralambos Tourikis, and Mike Tourikis. She is survived by her loving sister Maria Kost, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will continue to honor her memory.
Emorfia’s memory will live on through her family and through the countless quiet acts of love, faith, and generosity that defined her life. Her kindness touched many, her strength inspired those around her, and her unwavering faith guided her every step.
Her legacy will continue to echo in our hearts, in our traditions, and in the stories we share—an enduring reminder of a life fully lived and deeply loved.
A Funeral Service will be held at St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, on March 27, 2026, at 11:30 am. Followed by a Graveside Service at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home & Cemetery.
