Esther went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Tuesday, January 20, 2004. She was born February 5, 1923 to Olava and Casberg Larson in Larsen, North Dakota. She was their 7th daughter and 8th child, and 12 hours after birth, her Mother died. Esther was taken home by her Aunt and Uncle, Sigfrid and Ole Sletvold who adopted her and raised her in Noonan, North Dakota. As a young girl she loved to play sports, sing and do drama, and was very active in her church. Esther came to Seattle in 1941 where she worked hard and found life in the big city exciting. She was working as a photographers model and a dental assistant in the Cobb Building in downtown Seattle when she met her husband, Robert, an Annapolis graduate and Ensign in the U.S. Navy, during Navy week at the Olympic Hotel. They married in 1946 and enjoyed 57 wonderful years together. They had one daughter, Laurelon Dunn Plienis. Esther and Bob traveled extensively to Hong Kong, Europe and Africa. The times Esther most enjoyed were those travel times in their Motorhome where they traversed the United States 3 times or just went fishing in the lakes and rivers in Washington. Their cat, Skagit, accompanied them on these excursions as well as to Rancho Mirage, CA. where they spent the winter months in their condo. Esther was very active in public speaking for the Lord and Savior. She was involved with Christian Women?s Club for which she was chairman of the Seattle club for many years and traveled the states speaking for them. She was the only woman on the board for Sermons for Science during the Seattle World?s Fair in 1962. She was the prayer chairman for the Leighton Ford Crusade in 1965. She started Christian Spectaculars, which were held at the Northgate Theater and featured prominent Christian speakers and musicians. As a former model, she also taught charm classes. She was known for her hats and her style. Esther loved antiques and beautiful collectables and was the person behind ?Lady Esther Antiques.? She loved people and loved to entertain and did it with great class and style. Her home was filled with people and missionaries and their children where they often found a place to stay. Her generous, giving heart finally gave out and we will miss her forever. As a born again Christian, she is now at home with Jesus. She was preceded in death by a brother who died before she was born, and her oldest sister. She is survived by her husband Robert, her daughter Laurelon and her husband Ronald, and her 2 grandsons, David Plienis and Jeffrey Plienis, and 5 sisters. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made in her name to Stonecroft Ministries/Christian Woman?s Clubs, P.O. Box 9609, Kansas City, MO 64134. Services will be held at the Chapel at Evergreen ?
