

Ethel Mae Woodhouse, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on September 13, 2023 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Ethel was born to Ethel Maureen and Louis Emmett Venable and was raised in the Greenlake neighborhood of Seattle, along with brothers Harold, Art and sister Jean. Ethel attended Lincoln High School where she met and later married her sweetheart James Nicklos.
They started a family immediately and raised five children together. As well as raising a large family, Ethel worked full-time as a sales associate at The Bon Marche/Macy’s for 34 years before retiring and devoting her time to volunteering and chairing The Children’s Orthopedic Guild, Elks Emblem Club, and other charitable organizations. She loved bowling, playing pinnacle and socializing.
Ethel was known for her kind, sweet nature and beautiful smile. She is survived by her domestic partner, Jim Smith, daughters; Katie, Linda (John), Janice (Steve), Teresa-deceased (Dennis) son Jim (Maxine), eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
A graveside service for Ethel will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133.
