My love to Jana, Evolyn, my mother, Helen, and all of Forbes extended, lovely family.  I lost touch with my Uncle Forbes until recently when my sister Elaine took me to visit him on one of my trips to Seattle.  It was wonderful to see him again, although I thought he must have been angry with me for not keeping in touch.  So I started sending Christmas cards to get rid of my guilt.   I don't believe he was angry with me, though.  On September 29th he and my Aunt Evolyn surprised me with a telephone call.  It was my birthday.  I think it was the nicest birthday present I have ever received, and I will cherish the memory of his sweet voice always.  Forbes' neice in Montana.

Although, I had not seen Forbes in many years, he will be missed by me. :  One of my fondest memories of Forbes would be watching him on the green from my parents house.  He would hit golfball after golfball up to the green from his house and back.  He would do it for hours a day, it seemed.  :

I don't remember exactly when I first met Forbes and Jana.  My son, Craig, first met Forbes when he became friends with Forbes' daughter, Jamie.  I do remember Craig telling me that Forbes would really eye him when he would come over.  You see, my son Craig, is now married to Jamie and I think Forbes suspected Craig of his future intentions.  The things I do remember is that Forbes was always there for Craig - he taught him to golf, he would just be there to talk with Craig.  You see, I was a single mom trying to work long hours, keep us afloat but just couldn't be Mom and Dad, too!  I thank Forbes for being there for Craig, helping him to be a man and teach him golf.  I was so lucky to have him in my life as a mentor for Craig and as my inlaw!  God Be With You!

My special friend of 25 years is gone but I will not forget the wonderful person he was.  The memorial service was a touching tribute to him and the beautiful family he leaves behind.

We used to live down the street from you in Brae Burn and now are in Arizona. John I played golf with Forbes at Brae Burn and other courses in Seattle.  We send our sympathy.  Carol My fondest memory of Forbes was seeing him walk the course at Brae Burn with Willie and have Willie come by the house for a treat. He surely loved that dog.  He overcame adversities and was a nice, nice man.  A friend who also played golf with Forbes sent us his obituary from Seattle.

May we rejoice that Forbes has left this earthly life for a better one with Christ.  Let us be thankful that he was able to rise above his physical travails to live an inspiring and abundant life with us all.  We are much richer and better persons for his having shared himself with us - his family, his host of friends and the many others whose lives he touched in his journey through life. Whenever I called your home to speak with you Jana, and Forbes would answer, he made me feel like an old friend.  I remember feeling wonderful after talking with him. I'll miss his sweet, happy voice.  Jana, remember when you and I took golf lessons?  Tim remembers conversing with Forbes one time when they took us to the course. We had some great times, and were able to share and enjoy reviewing many of those times at our Class Reunions here in Fairbanks. Forbes made every reunion memorable!! I was a rebellious, ungrateful teenager and you were so good to me anyway.  Over these 20 years with you you never failed to impress me with your integrity. I love you Grandpa and miss you! I fondly remember the trip Dad, Carrie, Jim, Grandpa and I took to the coast together to celebrate both our birthdays. We ate ice-cream Sundays and walked along the beach. Grandpa you will always be in my heart.

Always inspiring, funny, intelligent, interesting and  with tremendous integrity, Forbes transformed my life and made it complete. I thank God for the time He gave me with Forbes.  

How blessed I am to have had Forbes in my life.  He was always kind, gentle and fair. His ideals were just and uncompromising.  He always expected the best from me, saw the best in me, and gave his best to me. I strove to live up to his expectations. He was my example for leading an honest life.  He was my teacher and my friend.  He helped me believe in myself and in others.  I am a better person for having known him.

Grandpa,

I love you and I miss you.  I am so glad to have had the chance to spend time with you throughout my life.  You took me on my first road trip, to Packwood, when I barely had my Learners Permit. You taught me the fine points of golf, making sure I didn't move my head, though I wasn't much of a pupil.  Spending the weekends with you were always worth my time.  You amaze me with your knowledge and experience.  My only regret is that I cannot tell you this in person.  I can carry your name with pride, I will have you in my heart forever.  I love you.

   With great saddness I learned of this wonderful mans passing. Having known him for the past 25 years I always found him to be truly interested in others, great to talk with and it was a pleasure to be in his company. 
   On the cronological due date of his grandchild to be born he showed up to meet and celebrate the birth of Forbes IV with his father Forbes I. Then the next week they came again for the same thing. Celeste Caroline was born 19 days after her due date so when she did arrive he came with gifts, many handmade, from all of his friends for a baby girl. He had to wait another 2 years for his namesake Forbes Cameron Baker to be born and he again brought his father Forbes I for the 4 generation celebration. 
   I'll never forget the time he took us to the Issaquah Dairy and showed us all of the complicated machines he kept running. That was the day I found out that the only difference in brands of butter was their outside paper wrapping. 
   He was a very talented, kind and caring man and will be missed by all who knew him. 

I remember Phorbes as just a young kid back in the early 40s, driving truck for the
Alaska Road Commission.
He used to enjoy dancing with my wife Gladys at the gatherings we used to have at the Manley Hot Springs Road House.

I will always remember Forbes and the great conversations we had on the telephone.  He had such a great sense of humor. We always enjoyed talking a few minutes before he handed off the phone to Jana.  Roger enjoyed getting to talk to him and know him better when Roger and Nate painted their house. Forbes was always sure they took their breaks and had tall glasses of lemonade.  He was very special to both of us.

Uncle Forbes was a special man.  We will miss him.  Our prayers are with all the family.  God give you strength.  Love and hugs.
Evolyn, my Mom, sends her love, too.  We sat in church yesterday while you all gathered in Seattle or Redmond.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences.  We hope you will find comfort in knowing that Forbes left this world peacefully, knowing that he had a loving wife, who cared for him deeply, and step-children who respected and loved him.

 I remember how Forbes took such good care of the finches. I thought it was so cute the way he would fuss over them. He had such a sweet and tender heart! I loved hearing your stories each day about how he would get so excited over the election last year! He will be missed greatly!

In Memory of Forbes;
     Forbes' passing is a loss for all of us.  He will be missed.
     In his memory, I would like it to known how much his care and mentoring of my son, Craig, has meant to me.  We always spoke fondly of Forbes and respected his wisdom.  Craig's exposure to golf has given us something we can now do together.  What better tribute to one than to help with the growth of another.  For me, Forbes did that!

We're so sorry for your loss. Forbes was such a neat guy. Butch works at Arrow Mfg. & got to know him pretty well. Luanne Del LaFord's daughter worked at Arrow last summer & also got to know him. We sure will miss him. 

Forbes has left an everlasting mark in North Pole and he will be remembered for generations for his contributions to the community.  God Bless You All.
