Gay grew up in the Seattle area, spending many happy days around Bangor, WA, with her sister Sally camping, beach combing and staying with her maternal grandparents, Fred & Rose Vetter. Gay, and her family, spent some time living in Selleck, WA and attending schools in both Selleck and Enumclaw.
The family moved back to the Seattle area where Gay graduated from Ballard High School in 1957. Her first job was at the Bon Marche in Seattle. In 1969 Gay started working in Mail Services at the University of Washington. In 2000, after 31 years, Gay retired from the UW, but continued to be a Husky at heart.
During this time in her life she developed a love of stamp collecting, coin collecting, hiking and performing with the Mountaineer's on their outdoor stage. Her favorite play she was in was the "Hobbit". Gay loved adventure and travel. She has visited many areas in the world, including The Holy Land, Hawaii, Lake Louise Canada, Alaska, Norway, East Berlin and Europe.
One of her loves was her family's history. She was excited to "hunt down" family connections in her travels (especially Norway). Gay was constantly asking questions, writing letters and compiling our family stories.
Gay moved from the family home on Palatine Ave, to her own apartment in Seattle. She lived there for a time, and then bought her first house in Mountlake Terrace. Her constant companion was a German Sheppard name Ginger. Around 1980 Gay was needed to help care for her mom. She unselfishly sold her house and moved back home.
After her mom, Muriel, passed to Heaven in 1983, Gay helped settle the family home, then bought a house in Lake City, WA. There, she made another new friend, a small honey colored dog who she named Honey. In 2004, Gay decided to move closer to her sister, Sally and family to Lake Chelan, WA.
She made many friends, enjoyed going to The Vogue Coffee shop visiting with Janice, Mike and the crew , she attended Little Stone Church, Bible study at Heritage Heights, enjoyed a wonderful friendship with Kathryn Hayes.
In January 2011, Gay decided to move to Colonial Vista to be closer to a city center and her doctors. Where ever she lived she made friends and helped where she could. One of the favorite things she was involved in was "The Hat Project" where over the past year she made and donated nearly 40 hats to kids in need.
Gay has a large and loving family, including her sister Sally Hunter, brother in law, Buzz, brother, Joel Scholz, sister in law Alexis.
